Let's be crystal clear, parties like the AfD don't care either. History is chock full of examples where far-right leaders got into power and broke most of their promises and achieved the polar opposite for most of their followers. For example Trump campaigned on "eggs too expensive" and promptly passed legislation that allowed the farms to price-fix even harder leading to "eggs even more expensive". The same has happened again and again with the "let's make the country secure again" claims, e.g. starting WW2 did not in fact make the average German's life safer.

So presumably your workflow is, agent tui -> push -> review -> find problems -> agent tui -> push?

Care to share any code or features that have come of your workflow? I'm skeptical of the quality and complexity this approach can handle.

For me it's not a race issue, it's an observation that I've only ever seen white people call themselves expats. I had guessed given the silicon valley, wealth background and posting on HN, that the author was white, and a quick image search confirms my assumption.

Since I don't want to derail the discussion I'll leave it at this and here this food for thought if you haven't confronted the topic give it a chance. A compelling definition of privilege is "Not having to think about X". Not having to think about the price of groceries is or more clearly the inverse of having to is symptomatic of poverty. Similarly, not having to think about one's skin color is a form of privilege. That's why many find it offensive to bring up, because normally they aren't confronted with it. How many times did we get suspicious looks because we are white? s/white/black and hopefully you see the point.

> Then, in April 1996 - by which time I’d expatriated to the Kingdom of Tonga

It annoys me every time I read the word expat and its derivatives. You became an immigrant, by emigrating to the Kingdom of Tonga. Only because you are white and rich doesn't change the concept of emigration to warrant a word with less stigma.

Immigration is a tricky subject with many nuances, pretending otherwise i.e. driving the immigration = bad line and calling immigration that affects ourselves or that we don't find objectionable expatriation is disingenuous and hinders good quality discourse about the topic.

Watch them learn the hard lesson that automotive companies had to learn with self-driving. The progress looks amazing at the start but those last few unnegotiable percent hide most of the work. Hands are incredibly dexterous, we don't have comparable tech let alone affordable enough to outcompete cheap immigrant labour. Maybe they can automate elderly care fast enough, but it's one heck of a gamble.

Had a good laugh thanks. Indeed area of denial, increased maneuvering etc. can all be used as attacks. Space is big, but stuff moves fast.

We are using that energy no matter how produced to terraform the planet into a less hospitable one for nearly everyone. Some get hung up on the resource extraction and associated pollution for renewable energy. But ultimately you can't fix "wanting the wrong thing" with technology. Our way of life and expected conveniences are not sustainable, they can't last 100k years, probably not even 100.

Honest answer, building and maintaining a large complex project over many years. We have plenty of examples of one-shots like the 1000x slower gcc, but those don't see updates after they achieved their advertisement goal.

Maybe a little more philosophical, novelty. You can ask an LLM to write in the style of <famous author> but afaik the results are bad when you ask it to write in a novel style no-one has seen before.

Distilling your own alcohol is technically trivial and process inputs are sold readily at every supermarket. So clearly we should just allow 15 year olds to buy hard liquor since we can't stop them .. HN baffles me again again with the whole because we can't do 100% 0% is better reasoning.

There is the entirely plausible option of the NSA indirectly bankrolling them to counteract the growing number of TLS connections. We terminate your TLS for free in our server and you don't have to change anything was a sweet deal for website operators _and_ those that want to look at unencrypted traffic. Given enough sustained funding they could undercut competitors and grow to what they are today.

Guys, stop trying to solve climate change. You can't solve "wanting the wrong thing".

Addicts are your most loyal and exploitable customers.

Things will keep getting worse in the US as long as the current nothing is anti-competitive policies endure.

"I have nothing to hide" -> "Ok take off your cloth". Privacy is a useful social construct not some abstract mathematical concept. Everyone has stuff to hide and that's ok.

What a bunch of entitled whining. How is the system to know that it's just a private conversation that won't be used in some fraudulent way? Abuse is currently rampant, yes please let's find a way to mark LLM output. The thing I'm worried about is giving the providers the power to claim provenance. Even ignoring the privacy issues, the operational hassle of having to check N providers makes these approaches at best limited. I want to see research into providing a shared public or ideally self-hostable oracle that uses some standardized method for watermark detection. Similar to asymmetric crypto where users can't reasonably find out the secret part but can do something useful with it nonetheless.
