I can honestly say I haven’t really had any issues with the client. Sure restoring from tray and starting are slow but other than that it’s been rock solid for me and for something that is mainly hosting a web view it’s nice that it doesn’t eat 1-3GB of memory in the background.

I’m curious what issues you have run into that you consider it terrible?

I’ll add to this, many places in America and I’m assuming other places in the world, society might not be serving you. Where I grew up I knew multiple people living off well water because there was no water main anywhere near them and the closest city/utility said they would be happy to install a pipe in their direction but at cost to them.

I would also argue living off grid isn’t abandoning society if you’re still paying taxes.

I have no sources for this but just the understanding I get from talking with some folks born after 2000. Most people are online or doing more individualistic activities so meeting single people organically is difficult. Dating apps are wildly skewed based on gender and have changed peoples dating behavior. I think there are other factors too but I think the combo of those two have left a lot of people discouraged and exhausted trying to date

I honestly miss my Windows Phone, solid performance and battery life. The platform was never big enough for there to be much issue with third party apps and I could write what ever software I wanted and load it onto the phone without too much pain.

I’m almost in the market for a new phone and I wish there were more options than Android/iPhone. I’m looking at maybe going for a GrapheneOS phone of some sort though

I don’t know, I could be wrong but I think one of the key aspects of system design which I don’t know if there is a lot of training data for us the “why” behind decisions. Separating out good design from bad isn’t always black and white and like the article mentions it’s about managing complexity and trade offs. It’s hard to capture in code/training data “we designed everything in a certain way but compromised in this one area because we were under time constraints and assumed we could fix it later”

A fun little exercise you can do is design a system and write some code and then ask LLM to explain why you wrote it that way. Results are varied and interesting but in my experience rarely capture the actual why behind decisions.

This is hilarious, I feel like we are going to see AI companies add something to the system prompt or terms of service that explicitly forbids having an LLM act as CEO. Honestly though I do hope this gives pause to the C suite when it comes to replacing people with AI

100% getting everything working for TidalCycles was rough, I remember needing to get Haskell, TidalCycles, and SuperCollider all communicating with each other and on the correct version. Once it was installed and working it was pretty solid but lots of headaches getting to that point. Maybe it’s better now though

I think the biggest issue might not be the immediate team but upper leadership. Companies which have mandated AI usage override a lot of what an individual or individual team wants. If that’s the case then it would be a lot like fighting the ocean, especially if your immediate team sees having AI write docs as an easy way to move the needle on LT’s AI monitoring dashboard.

But doesn’t China have the largest rollout of solar in the world?

Along the same lines this one leans into it and makes something absolutely unique and wild: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dHAP3E5e2jc

I agree though, you can combine art with AI and make something really unique but the majority of art people are pushing with AI is in my opinion being rightfully branded as AI slop.

Have there been any cases since the Meta ruling with the books they torrented? If I understood it right they argued and won that they didn’t seed any of the torrents so is fair use and the judge agreed. That case made it seem like as long as you don’t seed/distribute the copyrighted material then it is legal

I wouldn’t be surprised if they try but I think the game streaming business model is mostly dead. Stadia was a huge flop, PlayStation has streaming for previous gen games and it sucks, Xbox also has a streaming offering but I haven’t heard anything good about it. It’s a bad user experience and a significant cost to the company providing the streaming.

Honest question, do we know why crime isn’t being prosecuted anymore?

I’ve noticed where I live this definitely seems to be the case and has a two fold effect, police aren’t even bothering to enforce laws because when they do the city/county refuses to prosecute and then criminals are getting wise to this and escalating their crimes. Previously where I live there would be violent crimes but generally in the early hours (2-4am) but in the last 5 years those same crimes have been happening more and more during the normal daytime hours (8am-7pm)

The advice I have heard is if you think there will be a significant drop in the market you liquidate all your holdings while they are still high and then rebuy when the price is low. Granted this is a gamble though, if you’re wrong then you just sold all your stock and are no longer participating in the market plus you need to pay capital gains tax

It is a law but rarely enforced, also some places like Washington are primarily digital meaning you update your DL address online but they don’t print a new ID unless you request it or your DL is expired
