I don't think its that deep, man. I think its more like: "ha look you made a mistake, here's how it's meant to be written, dumb ass." Like the person above said already: the majority of the time people do this it's a simple typo and they know how it's spelt. So I don't really think adults appreciate being corrected on basic shit.

It's like the people who attack grammar in arguments instead of the core point. I've seen enough people doing this across the Internet to know the reason they do it. And it has everything to do with being a smug asshole and nothing to do with helping.

There already are real flying cars though. They are vehicles with wings that extend out from the car's body and can take short flights. They fly in the sense of what people expect from any other plane -- and thus need flat ground to act as a run way. None of these designs use cold air thrusters because its simply not viable for extended flight.

The reason thrusters work well in space is minimal weight there. You need to work many times harder on Earth to counter act the weight of the object here.

I don't think its just rationalist blogs who do this. Authors don't realise how little time people have now and catching anyone's attention is a miracle. These examples for the nicotine aren't the best though. Gwern's articles are long because he includes literally every thing he can possibly find on a subject. They're not meant to be like short summaries but more like evolving wikipedia articles.

If you read what gwern says on nicotine its far more nuanced than "nicotine is fine, use nicotine." He does acknowledge that frequent use leads to tolerance. But tolerance is not the same as addiction. I think also if you're going to try argue against his post (which is thoroughly researched) then you ought to do better than just set up a strawman and say he's wrong....

Tech is fucked and this site is mostly filled with an overly vocal minority of well compensated engineers who don't care.

wish we could go like a week with no posts about ai. we all deserve a break to learn something new...

I'm more interested in how the OP managed to convince claude to do what was probably against Activison's TOS. I am assuming they didn't hand specifics of the game but just a blank binary. Because if you had of given specifics claude would have checked the TOS of the IP holder, found that the company doesn't want people to decompile their software, and refused to work on it. Or am I missing something here?

They already got rid of junior devs. You don't need them to get better as you're already right. Idk how the author can recommend comp sci. Juniors are more likely to win the lottery at this stage than get an offer.

"It is no secret that the programmer job market is bad right now, and I am seeing good CS students struggle to find positions programming.

While I do not have a crystal ball, I believe this is a temporary rather than permanent situation."

Yep, any day now people will stop using AI and all the jobs will come back. Of course the author believes this if they're a professor. If students didn't think they had a job they wouldn't want to study comp sci and there would be no reason for professor for it, either. Even though they have a kid doing comp sci, gotta call them out of touch if they're not steering away that choice given what tech is today...

Vibe coders need to stop trying to use the browser as a platform for complex games. It's never going to work out and will always lead to a slow, unplayable, piece of shit. If you want to make a game then just make it a desktop program... There's a reason why literally every modern game is built in this way.

AI did this to every developer in the world and nobody cares. This just confirms to me that software engineers are the biggest cucks that exist right now.

I'd be putting a big sign out the front of my house explaining the situation to the cops and hoping they stop to read it before they storm in. I don't know if it would work but worth doing something. It's extremely strange to me that there was no coordination for the police to be able to say: "this guy has been swatted before, he's a victim, maybe we shouldn't proceed?"

I assume he's in an area with thousands of police like in a big city or something. Would you be safer in smaller towns against this threat or what? It's scary that essentially anyone who can find your address can do this kind of thing. Even though the penalties are severe if you get caught. The bold always find a way...
