This thread represents HN at its best. What a time to be alive!

I don’t think it is. However, the song Good Vibrations is in the psychedelic style, and came out before Sgt Peppers.

Introversion is a skill issue. People who aren’t extroverts are just not as good at socialising, so they find it difficult and tiring, but they could get better and then it would be easy.

Interested to see the Coding and Math scores for Grok 4.7 when they’re available. Grok 4.6 is apparently already on the frontier for Coding.

Well I think you need both. You need stable, well run businesses like insurance or confectioners, and you need high risk moonshots. I want the people with most business acumen running the former and the people with the most creative energy running the latter. Businesses like SpaceX wouldn’t be possible without a highly developed financial sector.

Ah yes now that I think about it, I remember the nuns in my neighbourhood, between feeding the poor and preaching love and inclusion, would hand out casino memberships and bet coupons to the local youths.

It was funny a few years ago when the English Premier League was all moralistic, having players “take the knee” before matches in solidarity with social justice, meanwhile all the stadiums and team shirts and television broadcasts were abound with online gambling ads and sponsorships.

What about all the people that Berkshire provides with gainful employment? What about all the goods and services its businesses provide to communities? What about all the tax it pays? What about the wealth he created for his investors? What about the high standards of corporate governance he upheld in the companies he controlled? You don’t hear about corporate sleaze and kleptocratic management at Berkshire companies. What about the fact that rather than consuming his personal wealth he’s left it mostly to a charitable foundation?

Doesn’t count for much?

But the behaviour of the system can totally change under different scales.

comparing x10 to x100 doesn’t necessary inform you about x100_000 to x1_000_000

I don’t really understand this. Some real examples would help. Making a “simulator” out of a bunch of historic states does not tell me enough.

There was that leaked video of a Cambridge Analytica exec bragging that they came up with the handcuffs in the Crooked Hillary meme. Except that was hardly a big thing. The phrase Crooked Hillary was arguably “linguistic killshot” by Trump; CA’s little riff on it was insignificant - and that was them trying to sell their services with their most impressive feats.

In the long term I think my did. It meant the US had an interest in the middle east so would be around long term for Israel to lean on.
