By end of year the sun comes up around 10 here. If we were on permanent summer time it wouldn't come up until 11. But at least the sun wouldn't set until 16:00 instead of 15:00 as it does now in December. :D

You can run your lights over ethernet. :)

Counter point: It would be easier for China to develop the technology required than to invade Taiwan while preventing the fabs from exploding.

You don’t, but you can validate the system as a whole. If you wish you can show up in the morning, confirm the ballot box is empty, look at the ballot box all day, follow the box out back and observe the ballots are poured onto a table, sorted in stacks and counted first electronically and then manually and see that the result is the same that shows up in the official tally. Validating that my single vote is counted correctly is worthless if the result is manipulated on the backend and it’s much harder (impossible) for any regular Joe to validate that an entire cryptographically secure voting system doesn’t manipulate the count somewhere.

This is in some contexts solved by having different ballots per choice. In Norway you go into a booth and select the ballot of your preferred party, fold it (they all look the same on the outside) and drop it in the box.

The public can observe that they choose their ballot/mark their ballot and drop it in a sealed box when they vote. If they want to they can hang around and observe how the box is brought in to another room and each ballot is counted and that the result is reported in to the bigger system where they later can see the results from all other districts and that the result from their district match with the result they can see in the official results. It's easy to understand. It's easy to understand and observe. If you digitize the voting process it's much much harder to understand and only computer scientists and mathematicians really understands what's going on. That's not sustainable imo.

It's quite normal in colder climates, but mostly in Diesel cars. I had it in my VW Multivan. I've never heard of anyone installing Webasto in their EV.

It’s generally not a real problem. Yes, you might have to make one more stop on a long trip, but new EVs can make a full charge in like 10-15 minutes.

Why? A lot of EVs these days comes with a heatpump so heating doesn’t use that much power. I live in a cold country where 98% of new cars are EVs and I have never heard anyone asking for something like this. A quick search on popular EV forums shows a few threads from 2010-2014. That’s it. I know webasto has a product like this, but there’s practically zero cars on the road with it installed.

Yeah. On various "Buy it for life" forums it's a daily occurence that someone mentions a brand they bought 5 years ago and then someone chimes in that they were sold or restructured last year and now it's no longer "buy it for life".

Some brands kind of split up so products sold in one market is cheap knockoffs while products sold in the home market is still high quality manufactured at the old factory with 100 years old machinery and experienced workers. If you want to buy quality you've got to do deep research first.

I can't search for Apples own Notes app. I've tried the name in my local language, I've tried the original english name of the app. Nothing. It will show me OneNote which isn't even installed anymore, but not the Notes app. Very strange.

Rookie numbers. As the crow flies it's 250km between me and my old town. Used to drive back and forth a lot back in the days and it takes everything from 8 hours to 10 hours depending on the route you take and whether you hit the ferries on schedule or not. Plus 30 minutes for resting and eating. Flying takes 50 minutes in a propeller airplane + travel to and from airports and airport shenanigans (not too bad at these small airports). If you take the morning flight you'll be in town by the time people start showing up for work. If you drive you'll be in town by the time people start leaving work.

Global trade, except for the states the US doesn't want to have access to global trade at any given moment.

One of my kids got diagnosed with ADHD and autism/asperger. He can sit for hours reading IF IT IS INTERESTING. But homework? Impossible. Even if it's just reading a couple of pages of a book it's nearly impossible for him to do it and it takes so much energy and suffering to get through it.

Europe here. I have several friends that got diagnosed with ADHD as adults.

If you try to do it through the public system it's very difficult to even get an appointment because there's months long waiting lists. Basically if you have a job and function somewhat OK in normal life you won't be diagnosed in the public system. If you do get through it can be a long process where they want to interview your parents etc to determine if you had symptoms as a child. But you can also get a diagnosis through private practitioners and some of them function almost like diagnosis mills. A couple of video interviews and tests and you are done.
