I'd like this kind of setup because my VoIP provider charges a couple bucks a month for 9-1-1 while sending 9-1-1 over cellular would be free

Same for a 20 year old Corolla. I'm embarrassed to admit I've never flushed the coolant or brake/steering fluids. Rear drums are OEM with under 50% wear. Did the pads. Rotors may have been replaced once.

Prophylacticly changed the spark plugs... but I think they were fine.

Had to change the wheel bearings which was a pain to diag and even more of a struggle to remove in the rust belt... which an EV won't get around.

EV might have saved me from a couple welder repairs on the exhaust and Macgyvering heat shields. And that $10 intake manifold gasket that always fails (2h shadetree job). Transmission ran dry a few times after a metal line rusted out. Bypassed with rubber hose and runs again like a champ.

I love it but will crumble like a cracker in a collision because rust (but still drive because 1zz-fe).

My similarly aged German car is way ahead on factory corrosion protection. Maybe the Japanese manufacturers have caught up but I won't know if/how far behind the Chinese manufacturers are for a decade or two.

Probably 8992 kHz.

The broadcasted ones are usually simulcasted globally across several frequencies. Different frequencies work better/worse at different times of day… but when it’s global, you could be in any time of day.

Other calls are just at one frequency. And I think if an aircraft is responding, it’s just on one frequency (dunno how they choose).

it's great for the manufacturers when regulators crush 2nd hand markets.

Deplorable for consumers, but why have circular economies when you can increase your foreign dependencies?

I can't be the first small-brained Canadian that stuck a fan in front of those euro apartment bloc radiators on a cold day.

(And re-arranged the furniture a bit + stopped using the radiator as storage...)

Countries still have strategic reserves, but usually of crude, not refined product --> decentralized reserves would help with supply cuts by any cause. The benefit would be too individual vs export/frontlines, so won't happen.

my Arm/Android set-top box of choice for, ahem, streaming subscriptions, is up 50% in price despite no changes to the design since I bought it 2 years ago. And that's on aliexpress where margins are limited.

Energy facilities have the destructive energy stockpiled on-site. Don't need to fly in much force yourself.

Also why I think governments should mass-produce & subsidize blow-molded 25L plastic gas cans instead of building centralized storage tanks/caverns. No way those things cost anywhere near US$25 to make.

ChatGPT sometimes spit out some characters from very foreign character sets. Maybe only an issue on the free side?

> Got something that's an absolute bitch to get apart or something goes wrong? Yeah you're still getting paid the same even if it's not your fault.

I feel bad for mechanics in the rust belt getting paid what another mechanic gets paid for much more effort
