HSI has long been criminal enforcement within ICE, but I agree that they are the wrong agency to investigate this. They're doing it because they're unquestioningly loyal to Trump and because it's likely the administration has ordered certain outcomes.

I would also argue that there are no potential benefits that would make this sort of surveillance acceptable, let alone necessary.

Because the justification for running these operations is NSPM-7, which explicitly designates leftist groups and beliefs as terrorism.

They've never done what they're "supposed" to do, though. While maybe not so egregious in the past, these eager violations from the police apparatus are a large part of why I'm an abolitionist.

Right and they're a picture of health, with their junk bond rating etc.

It stuck out to me because I've seen it this week a lot, but as others are saying it's not incorrect, just different from my usual American lexicon.

As an aside, I've been seeing "extraction" used more instead of "descent" or "heritage" lately. Is there any reason you adopted that terminology?

I have a pet theory that this court wants to overturn Wickard v Filburn because some impactful Civil Rights laws are underpinned by the authority to regulate interstate commerce and the current SCOTUS has been steadily overturning 20th century court precent surrounding Civil Rights.

Before the execution livestream was called off, Trump said that people who leak to the press should be shot. It doesn't take a big leap to see where this is going and what the stakes are.

Yeah bring back INS, but also disqualify anyone employed by the current DoJ or DHS from holding civil service employment in the future. Hopefully they'll be facing prison or even more severe criminal penalties for their conspiracy against rights.

Yes it's business jargon for the inflection point in an exponential growth curve.

Some definitely voted against her, others didn't vote as a consequence. You have to realize that Biden's administration was enthusiastically backing the people who were killing their families overseas, and Kamala not distancing herself from that position made her unsupportable. Of course it's naive to think Trump would be better, but when the Dems were supporting the gleeful killing of their family members can you perhaps understand the skepticism toward Kamala?

Some weird perverted rebuttal to Gil-Scott Heron. "The Execution Will Be Televised".

I think the actual postmortem analysis is that cosigning a genocide against an ethnic group whose members and sympathizers are a must-win bloc in a must-win state (Michigan) was a tactical error. Kamala could have distanced herself from Biden's "bear hug" relationship with Israel. Other Dems won statewide races in Michigan who didn't carry the genocide baggage.

I've worked with some outstandingly talented folks on H1-B, and then I've worked with WITCH body shop H1-B workers, and the latter have approximately the skill of a semiliterate high school dropout. We need to do something about the abuses in the system while maintaining pathways for the genuinely talented candidates.

It would be racist to assume this happens every time Indian managers make hiring decisions, but I've been at multiple companies that had to put policies in place to distribute hiring decisions amongst committees instead of allowing hiring managers to have the final say specifically because certain managers would only hire from their home regions and caste within that region. It seems like a somewhat widespread problem. I have also seen this happen with Chinese hiring managers, and I'm sure it happens with US-born hiring managers as well, but that's somewhat harder to prove as being in the US a US-based candidate pool is the default.
