Generations of work training imbeciles not to swab their greasy paws on the monitor are about to be undone in the blink of an eye.

Shares of US chipmaker Intel cratered on Friday, plunging almost 30 percent, the worst stock collapse in 52 years. The wipeout, analysts said, could be due to a massive slowdown in the PC market. The market softness shouldn’t come to anybody’s surprise, given the AI boom has made individual components, most notably memory and storage, practically unaffordable.

However, leaders of AI frontier labs aren’t blinking. To OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, for instance, having people run their own models at home on their own computers doesn’t make any sense anyway. During a recent interview on the Cheeky Pint podcast, Altman argued that ongoing memory supply chain woes were because selfish individuals wanted to run their AI models locally instead of leaving the remaining AI chips alone for hyperscalers to hoard in data centers.

Yes, yes; victory is assured. the sheer weight of the slop will inevitably crush the human spirit. That is, I presume, why it is necessary to force it everywhere it will fit.

On the other hand their hardware only supports one operating system.

So it's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

> Do you ever envision creating something modern, without the warts and with a design that incorporates half a century of lessons-learned?

Turns out that the warts are the incorporation of the lessons learned. For this reason, just before Wayland fulfills its destiny and becomes an immaculate replacement for X11, a new generation of developers will determine Wayland's codebase is too complex to comprehend and must be rewritten from scratch.

I would suggest IRC but apparently typing and reading text is a non-starter for many.

> I'm surprised how dismissive people are to using brainpower whatsoever.

Scrooge McDuck lived by the credo: "Work smarter; not harder."

But for many people, smarter is harder.

OpenGL >3.3 seems to mostly enable e-waste.

It is vexing to see ports of N64 games and Quake requiring OpenGL 4 (or better) hardware for no discernible reason other than the version number is bigger. Eyes on you, Ironwail.
