I'm building my business right now and I'm an engineer on a budget so it's running on a homelab and my intermediate scaling problem is to cluster Mac Minis but if my dreams become real I'd love to have an Oxide rack. Very pie in the sky but I've followed ya'll for a minute and I love what I've read, watched, and seen so far.

You are a dream. I'd love to try this out.

Honestly, right now I'm pretty happy with my Nomad and heterogeneous hardware setup of cobbled together compute. But it's honestly not a bad side project idea.

I know they'll never do this but, by god, I would line up so fast for a mini oxide that I can homelab out of.

I didn't even bother downloading any of it to try it out - this is kind of what I expected. Maybe after a massive amount of token spend it'll be somewhat functional?

Probably because they wanted... to?

A lot of small businesses use these platforms for outreach. Without them they wouldn't have an avenue to reach and stay in contact with customers. An example would be a potter showing their work on Instagram and then linking back to their Shopify website.

Big tech literally has fingers in every single pie imaginable and it's real money for a lot of people, unfortunately.

I've had three different galaxy fold zs and each one has had a broken interior screen. My current fold has a broken internal screen and I'm on vacation.

I just started building this a month ago so it's... sparse. But something that I'm trying to create is an indexer and aggregator for "third party" sites like Shopify, Squarespace, etc. Ingestion is instant as I just point my application at a domain and it slurps it up.

I curate based on "small scale production" - think hand made goods but the curation has a bit more wiggle room than that.

Most of the work isn't even technical. I get a lot of sellers from craft fair markets in my area. It's called Plukio. It's bare bones but maybe it'll be something someday.

My TODO list today is actually to contact an illustrator for it to do graphics and logo design.

Oh yeah, my partner and I noticed this when our local grocery store had a sale on Talenti. It just... wasn't very good. Like it was just OK. For that grocery store, Nancy's Fancy is next to Talenti and - for a couple bucks more - you get something that is absolutely delicious.

I'm not associated with Nancy's Fancy but I will absolutely shill for it. Wonderful stuff.

I use Tailscale to manage Plukio's infrastructure as well as connecting to my homelab.

I'm happy that they're analyzing this angle of attack - but now I do want to build out alerts for when nodes are added to my network.

> Org mode, Magit, TRAMP, or another deep Emacs-native package is your center of gravity

This is me.

> rewriting the editor live in Elisp is the whole point for you

Funnily enough, this is not me. I just grab Doom Emacs and do very minor adjustments. I just really like all the packages and the ecosystem.

For me, it was easier to just continue to use Ansible for machine reproducibility. I really like the thought behind Nix but I felt like I needed to elbows deep in it 24/7 to really grok it. And if I stopped looking at Nix for 6 months, then that knowledge just disappeared. I migrated away from NixOS for my homelab because I would come back to flakes I had written and not understand how anything worked and couldn't be bothered to relearn. I know that Ansible and Nix can sometimes be apple and oranges but I know that I can come back to a playbook and understand what it does even if I haven't touched Ansible for years.

It's not like consumers aren't spoiled for choice of VPNs.
