Zig's reimplementation of all of the standard libraries even though it's possible to use the existing ones is both baffling to me and kills usage of the implementation in my eyes.

Redoing critical parts such as crypto and compression is crazy in this day and age, hell they even have issues and merge requests open for issues that'd be headliners if found in any major language

A patched build is strictly more information, and you'd only need to cross correlate between the two.

At this point shipping the build already may have been the best option but not necessarily everyone is actually able to ship yet. And this is of course assuming the actual vulnerability is the same one as the PoCs that are being tried, and not something even nastier instead

The update was withheld because releasing it without notifying major providers and distros would turn it into the same race, with ai having a release is the same thing as a disclosure.

This would've worked if other people were able to shut up about it. Because its existence got leaked they posted the announcement

Well this is about as bad as it gets, so I guess the internet will get a bit of test and old forums will turn into a botnet

Yep, I have a decently powerful home server that's always on, but still run a cheap VPS for directly public services like my sites. I don't think it's particularly likely that the home server would get hacked if updates were to br kept up with, but why risk it for that little money?

The AI would probably jump on DoH, what they need is proper decrypted inspection which I'm not particularly convinced they do with the stories that keep coming out

Going to higher densities with DUV needs high multi patterning which is very inefficient and ends up costing more than if they could do EUV with fewer patterns.

It's well known tech that is used globally, just not to that degree as yield and throughput goes way down

I think the models getting dumber impacted that too, after a couple weeks both sol and Luna felt notably worse to me than they did at release

Around banking it's usually because they have to

Well, it can do research without uploading malware or hacking into systems

Yep put some deep packet inspection firewall in front of it and stop it completely if it starts acting up persistently before it starts trying to bypass the firewall

If 0. Etc. are also compiled out, at compile time __debug__ is simply False or True and the existing optimization paths take care of it.

Assigning to __debug__ wouldn't do anything to the compiler as it never actually reads the variable, so assignment would just cause weirdness from other use

This really is the simplest path to somewhat decent security, and alongside it you may catch some programs doing requests that are fine for security but you'd rather it not do because of privacy.

They're claiming a lot, but don't have much to show for it

And if you go for actual GPUs it'll run much faster, I'd say 24gb may be pushing it for context, but my 5090 with 32GB VRAM is usually somewhere between 60 to 100 tok/s with mtp and 2-3k tok/s for prompt processing. I'm not sure what they cost now but it's definitely still quite far from the macbook, and there's also some other 32GB GPUs that are considerably more affordable
