Exactly, this is an atribute that comes out of societies not inherant nature.

To soften this a little bit, and I mean a very little.

The youth unemployment numbers are hard to judge, could be right but it is hard to tell on the outside.

The fertility figures are a long term issue, China is not alone in that but something to keep an eye on.

Those import/export figures... now that is the the most telling of how the economy is fairing nowadays. For all the speculation I have heard for decades, that is the most alarming stat I have seen. That is where the rubber meets the road for an economy that is so depended on those things to keep society function vaguely well. Stay tuned...

This is the asymmetric nature of people. The needs/wants of today out rule those of tomorrow even if it means making tomorrow worse.

It is not set in stone but it is very prevalent in our societies nowadays.

China has been tipped to fail any time now for the last 25 years. They have long term issues but they will play out over long term results. A whimper rather than a boom!

Their problems always seem to look worse than it should be but functions better than expected.

I will offer somewhat opposite. My father had 4 kids and at my age looks roughly the same. That is look like we where/are in our late 20's at age 40. Genetics goes a long way.

Right on. Just because a company provides a lot of apparent value doesn't mean they should be exempt from these kinds of regulations.

Bingo! Now that they are a key part of the industrial complex, good money can be thrown at bad and it will all still work out.

Not saying that is what they are doing but they are now in a key position that big mistakes are not necessarily fatal to the company.

1 to 2 orders of magnitude? ... Falcon Heavy launches nowadays run at approximately $40-70 million each. So you are implying that others cost minimum $400 to $4 billion per launch! I mean that is still 1/100th the Saturn V but SpaceX hasn't improved the overall costs that much. An improvement, yes, but no where near what they claim.

This is really my only complaint about Space X. I wish they would stop trying to be this somewhat unrealistic hype machine. What they are doing nowadays is amazing - that should be enough!

Like we have. Moved a lot from radio over to the internet. Highly focused communication.

That is very fair. It felt like Gil had some good ideas, had a reasonably good feel for what needed to be done, just didn't have the intuition to execute it well. Jobs did.

In a way Gil probably would have done very well working under Jobs but once you are in the CEO seat, there is no chance of taking that demotion.

While I was very skeptical of the base claims of LK99 (extrodinary evidence required), I did sort of fall a little bit for the hype of what this kind of material could be used for. Mostly in terms of computer clock rates and used in batteries. Turns out what seemed intuitive at first was mostly wrong.

But then that is what happens a lot in various fields. Something that seems obvious isn't done because those that actually know the field can explain all the details you didn't know. Anyone here in programming have had that battle with upper management...

Hey lesson learned in this case. Don't always assume you have a grasp of all the details.

One amission that I always see from this period of Apple is the impact of Gil Amelio's decisions and how much gets attributed to Jobs. This is not to undermine Jobs, he was absolutely the right person in the right place and figured out how to really sway project into shape and communicate the changes the company was making.

Projects like the iMac were already underway before jobs returned under the wings of Amelio. In the same way the whole focus on education and the simplification to 4 computer types was later attributed to Jobs once Gil was out.

That said, there was 10 month between Gil being ousted and the iMac being revieled so there was plenty of time for Jobs to put the finishing touches on that one could argue was what a lot of Apple products really needed at that time. But I suspect under Gil it would have been called something stupid like 'Machintosh for internet - 7400E'.

It is an idea that many floated as soon as Greta turned up in the news.

They didn't like the message, so they decided to attack her rather than the ideas. Use some media based pareidolia and they had a conspiracy to make the world seem right again.

It is easier to attack the person and the ideas of climate change, to stay pure in ideals and intent, than to accept dirty truth that we the people may have had any influence on the world that is even vaguely negative.
