idk the whole point of hardware wallets is that they are supposed to be a simpler stack. But if you're using a closed source hardware wallet...

An old laptop with the wifi card taken out is more transparent and auditable. It just runs the ordinary open source code

But I just keep all my funds in a hot wallet, no multisig. And if I get hacked I lose it all. I think the answer is just have good security and dont get hacked. The risk of losing cryptocurrency will encourage security advances across the whole ecosystem. I think I will set up multisig eventually

don't bet against the house. eventually you have to cash the chips out for real money, and the house might throw out the old chips.

Unless the house is monero or something and you want a lifetime supply of drugs.

If your crypto was stolen in this, it wasn't your crypto. It is simply cryptocurrency that has been reallocated from an exchange to a more competent party, as the free market intended.

The flipside to this is if you're a pig, always wrestle a man. And on the internet, no one knows you're a pig

It depends on the context, but I think the heart of leftism/rightism is described by the idea of slave/master morality described by nietzsche and others.

In our nation it's a bit different, because the right wing is also seen as christian while the left-wing is more athiest. I would chalk that down to a certain duality that exists within each wing, which I think is desirable.

I think that leftists are motivated by some animosity for winners that makes them worship losers. So whatever strategy they develop tends to be ineffective in the long run. Whenever some figure breaks out and becomes effective at accomplishing some purported goal, leftists have to dis-associate with them.

Elon musk is an example. I don't think elon ever had an allegiance to the right wing, but he was basicially forced into some right wing alliance after far-left became critical of him for being a successful industrialist. It was breakup that basicially didn't need to happen if the left was more unified and diplomatic in their relations. Compare that to how right wingers dealt with their disagreements with him over immigration: it's not like the whole right wing shattered due to purity tests. Elon's worldview is essentially that of 2010s neoliberal reddit, same of Joe Rogan and whatever other figures that have supposedly "turned to the dark side".

Like for example, I think you could solve environmental problems more effectively by tricking the right wing into believing they were always environmentalists then by supporting leftist-environmental causes which have a tendency to devolve into grievance politics about natives and biodiversity and such. I think intersectionality is probably one of the worst memes spawned from leftist academia, it just feeds into attention seeking behavior and basicially prevents leftists from holding any reasonable goals within their own group.

But mostly I think the problem is like I said earlier, the emergence of control freaks. Like they try too hard to control the discussion and enact censorship, and most people see through that. It's like people who think they are smart by conciously moving the overton window to the left, but it actually invites a disproportinate response away from them. Thats how I would describe the current socio-political situation.

As a gplv3 advocate, I disagree. Anti-Tivoisation is thr main innovation of gplv3

Are you saying we would all be unemployed if everything is GPL'd?

Now it's the case that almost all software can be reverse engineered by AI. So the moat will be eroded regardless. Filthy copyleft or not.

They effectively can't to the extent that it's not a social norm to enforce that level of security theater. You are arguing in favor of normalizing an increased degree of security theater.

My point here is that this specific step on the slippery slope is a cliff, not some infintessimal change, because now the authentication is done through a program and not copyable information. If verification-can technology is standardized on an OS level and advocated by four out of five tech priests (and maybe even enshrined in law (think of the children)), then you are going to be drinking a whole lot more mountain dew in the future to say the least.

If it was just a single bank or something that tried this, people would get pissed off, leave, and the frog would not be boiled. It takes a slow industry-wide movement to shift the standards of what is acceptible to the common man.

How? It wouldn't be easy at all it would be totally unconventional and break all sorts of expected workflows for passwords if you had to take a photo every time. For example at my work we have a ton of computers and none of them have webcams.

Passwords are client-neutral. Passkeys aren't: you can force a certain client, and now those clients can force an OS through attestation.

It happens now with 2fa today. I have gone through college for 4 years having to use this shitty duo mobile app and we have to take out our smartphones 20 times a day to do things and re-login after every 20 minutes.
