Why do you think that, per the article, one million cattle are wearing these collars?

That he viewed a review on Goodreads as the reviewer’s intellectual property hadn’t occurred to me. I see why, in aggregate, many such opinions become valuable, but the whole is more than the sum of its parts.

So does it feel to you guys like your comments, say, here in this Hacker News thread should be considered effectively copyrighted as your personal IP?

If so, do you feel the same way about opinions you share out in a supermarket or on the street?

What expectation of confidentiality are you ascribing to people having posted publicly accessible opinions on the internet?

Out of curiosity, is your point about TOS out of concern for the poster or for Goodreads?

It happens to me often enough. Might be a matter of taste in movies?

Sounds like the article isn’t incorrect? The first two criteria depend on which community is doing the judging. New Yorkers will have à different norm than people from say a quaint 5k-person town where there’s an 8:1 church:supermarket ratio. The third criteria is vague, but vagueness cuts both ways.

He did check that out. His test results ruled it out.

Excited to try this. I like the look of that TUI.

“Extremely” is a bit extreme for something that takes 100,000 times longer than a Venmo payment. Or, intercontinentally, a stablecoin transfer

I find this only to be true when used on the same iPhone where NFCTools was used.

If you try to have another iPhone detect the badge, it appears not to work - unless you use NFCTools on that iPhone, too. I don't have conclusive proof but that's what the evidence seems to indicate.

Are you seeing something different?

New England has no death penalty. California does. What is the crap you are referring to that makes California stink?

Would be curious to hear an elaboration on this perspective. In your opinion, on which measures of intelligence would GPT-4 fail to out-perform a human with an IQ of 80? Conversely, on which measures do you imagine it would succeed at doing so? Are the latter less significant or valid than the former?

This is cool. I’m curious to see how the results of instructing GPT via Jargon compare with those of telling it what to do using natural language.

For those who believe that decentralization matters, Worldcoin targets an important obstacle: the obstacle that prevents democratization of dapps. (Decentralized apps.) For example, say you want a cryptocurrency designed with universal basic income in mind. Or, say you want a censorship-resistant, human-populated social network, or a public review system allowing one review per person instead of one review per bot. In the world of dapps, only proof of humanity permits you to do these things because per-capita smart contracts are otherwise impossible. It's not too hard to imagine how these networks - and, thus, the cryptocurrencies underlying them - could have value.

Outside the web3/blockchain world, it probably isn't obvious why the problem Worldcoin aims to solve is important. Because, in traditional apps, it's a problem whose solution one can take for granted. (Often.)

Maybe proof of humanity won't be at all impactful. For that matter, maybe decentralization itself is doomed, whether due to ethical concerns, moral panic, or government hostility. Presumably, the creators of Worldcoin are skeptical that we should treat either of those outcomes as likely.
