Why? Why would a non-deterministic engine be better for a game when it can be instead structured and made deterministic and then more effectively distributed to consumer hardware?

I think it's political. Certain companies are exploiting as much as possible to push the boogeyman of AI for regulation.

We built our own ways to filter these because *we* went to the website and gathered a lot of information on it.

Now, the model slips it in without any verification and casually builds on top of it.

Exactly this. Why does nobody blame the company advertising "connect your financial & health data to our model"?

Why is it that somehow LLMs are given full clearance to dox, hack, spam, and scam without any liability?

It's the collective action of losing access to information that's the issue, not the potential of the book itself.

Regardless, these books were available. Researchers, hobbyists - many people have and will find value.

Justifying the destruction of information for a for-profit company is bizarre.

If we ignore the massive amount of books being destroyed, the outages and increased usage bills for once free websites (some resulting in closure), the increased difficulty to access public information such as Reddit and Twitter, and lastly ignore the amount of conversations being taken away from the public in favor of LLMs, I would agree.

Feels like their purpose is to test the boundaries, take the hits, and eventually sell off

Compared to BL (Before LLMs) when all human-authored pages were completely reliable?

In either case it's important to verify information, and LLMs are increasingly more capable of fact-checking.

It'd be nice if you could back up your feelings with some reasoning.

The neighborhood is safe enough and the community is cohesive enough that kids can congregate along their way to school: go to their friend's house, meet at a park, etc.

It's researched enough that you can go and learn about it and challenge your feelings.

In what world should a citizen be required to provide their details to a foreign, for-profit company in order to view the updates provided by their government?

Never had an X account, never will.

Now I'm completely locked out of police reports & municipal updates in my area because it's the only platform they post on.

People don't like to be watched and recorded. That's it.

This data - which includes their facial features, geolocation, and activities is not yours to take and immortalize.

This should be intuitive to any empathetic human being. One person saying "this breaches my sense of safety and privacy" should be enough for you to understand.

Because you're not _just_ recording your kids. You are a walking surveillance camera that nobody has consented to.

As I recall they actually used closed models, were rejected by cybersecurity guardrails, and then used open models
