i work for a large company that’s trying to curate vs code extensions, and this doesn’t make it easy.

we automatically block extensions and require that extensions must be approved, but this is a tedious process.

I have never provided my phone number at voter registration. In any case, all the texts to me are marked with "Hello Louella". I have also been "Brenda".

I am not a Louella or a Brenda, more of a "Joe" or "Frank".

I am quite sure that ActBlue just creates a list of names, then create a wardial list and assign those names to a number.

Asking them to stop just confirms your number to work. And yes, it's ActBlue because they have specifically identified themselves as such more than once.

oceangate isn't a good comparison.

carbon fiber is great in tension, i.e. a compressed air tank, or COPV

carbon fiber is much less great in compression, i.e. OceanGate

Also the OceanGate construction process was bad, even for carbon fiber, because the CEO didn't listen to actual engineers.

as someone who is associated with “the big guys”, I can tell you this is changing.

Our Oracle license licensing went up so dramatically that the team I work with is moving some very large databases to postgres from Oracle because it doesn’t make financial sense anymore.

now, if we could only stop eating at the trough of Broadcom…

every time I use the Internet on a computer without some sort of ad blocking, I am astounded to learn that there are still people who use the Internet without an ad blocker.

The Internet is unusable these days without ublock origin or a pihole.

former squid here, can confirm. filipinos were very common until the USN pulled out of the bases in the Philippines in the early 90s.

they couldn’t get clearances easily if at all so a lot of filipinos worked in the galley (kitchens) which sometimes resulted in unexpected menu items. if it had been lumpia and chicken adobo that would have been great but usually it was stuff like spaghetti sauce with liver

i miss lumpia with banana ketchup so much

This guy did a nice thing for people, let's keep it positive.

Thank you very much for this! KDEConnect is great, but it's a little awkward to use with iOS (because of Apple, not the great developers), so this is a nice project to see.

I don't see references to contributions, do you have a patreon or something?

Social media won because it is better and more profitable for the producer/site owner.

It is objectively worse for the consumer:

* Algorithms that push content the user didn't ask for/dark patterns

* Prioritizes low-attention span/doomscrolling

* Magnifies the most virulent outrage-driven content, often by the very people that commit the outrage, and profits from that outrage

Social media as currently implemented by everyone is a cancer.

That is a great book. All my kids loved it.

"Good night little house and good night mouse, good night comb and good night brush, good night nobody, good night mush"

My kids loved the mush part. I still remember it more than a decade after I last read the book for the bajillionth time, often more than once per night, to a kid that wouldn't go to sleep.

not an amputee, but he did heal a man with a withered or malformed hand in Matthew 12. he also healed plenty of cripples, so I don’t think it’s a stretch to think that some or many of them were missing limbs.

even the Jews of the time that did not believe or follow Jesus wrote that he performed signs. They claimed it was sorcery.

in Folio 43a of Tractate Sanhedrin of the Babylonian Talmud as follows:

‘It is taught: On the eve of Passover they hung Yeshu and the crier went forth for forty days beforehand declaring that "[Yeshu] is going to be stoned for practicing witchcraft, for enticing and leading Israel astray.”’

The relevant portions of the Bible record that the Jews of the Sanhedrin acknowledged the signs and miracles but said it was by the power of Satan that he did these things.

Were I still on Linkedin, I could totally have been caught by this. Thank you for this post, and the technical breakdown.

The company that I currently work for is currently paying for a curation product to scan NPM for vulnerabilities, and to prevent access to typo-squatting packages and new, unverified packages. I suspect that my employer may get to the point of banning NPM entirely, though.
