Which means nothing. Apple is extremely good at calculating how much inventory they should produce. They’re not going to make more than they’ll sell and have them sit on shelves. They’re also not going to cut into their profit margin too much by paying their way out of the memory shortage.

I did a rough estimate of all the people I know and the number of those people who would want to root their phone. It’s not a big number but it’s way bigger than “a fraction of 1%”.

And it’s a completely different demographic than those would would fall for the phone call scam, but it’s incredibly disingenuous of you to suggest that the only malware distribution vector is being tricked into installing an APK.

I know people who are interested in modding games, pirating software, and installing “cool” apps just for the novelty. I would argue the most likely reason those people installed malware is voluntarily, because they searched out a hacked version of Bloons Tower Defence. Not because they “needed to pay an outstanding Windows service bill”.

I can’t stand this sort of hyperbole.

Obviously this does not affect “every device worldwide”. I don’t have a single Android phone, and the devices I own that do run Android are not affected.

My theory is that Gemini 3.8 Flash was supposed to be Gemini Pro, but by the time it was ready for release, Google was embarrassed at how far behind their "pro" model was, so they just named it Flash. It's a good model, but don't let the name trick you.

Cursor hasn’t had unlimited auto for nearly a year now (although usage is generous).

I assume they mean how easy Plex makes it to share content across the internet. I setup a server, you download a client. No port forwarding, VPN shenanigans, etc

Any illegitimate email collection service already knows to strip out email subaddresses.

If you’re trying to avoid email spam, there’s not much difference in giving someone [email protected] versus just [email protected].

I did a hackathon many years ago (before LLMs) where I spent a serious amount of effort training a conventional machine learning algorithm and integrating it into a react native app. I had a genuinely impressive team to make this possible given it was 2016.

The winning team bought a bootstrap theme for $35 and made a landing page for a nonexistent app.

That doesn’t matter when you have the average. Even if you are somehow able to get 10000tok/s during off peak times, by virtue of how averages work, you’re still only getting 52M tokens per month (as calculated above).

While tone often portrays poorly over text, I think this is an example where the sarcasm is very overt. I don’t think anyone would think the comment is serious.

How many times will people fall for this? Public voting is a false sense of democracy, when every ballot looks like, “Do you want us to lower taxes, cure cancer, and [in small text] install surveillance at every intersection?”

The pricing doesn’t render properly on mobile. The responsive design puts what is presumably a table into a vertical stack, which means I have no idea which price corresponds to which feature.

Ugh, I’ve been wanting this forever.

I DON’T want Uber Eats to tell me I should order pizza tonight.

I do want to know when the delivery driver is outside.

I don’t understand the concern of this. Let’s say it says you’ve used 1.521kg of CO2 today. How is that actionable?

A single flight from JFK to LAX produces around 20,000kg of CO2. Using the 8.3g value means a flight is equivalent to 2.41 billion tokens.

I was hoping this was an app that forced you to learn languages before opening instagram. Doesn’t seem to be the case at all, in which case I’m not sure why this is titled “Duolingo for screen time”.

Instead this looks like a clone of any of the many screentime apps, with similar egregious pricing.
