Same experience here. I think it’s 50/50 models getting past an inflection point and people learning how to use them. I hope that the advances in small models can move that inflection point to models under 200b parameters, because then we an all own our own tools.

Nice. Our campus is off-grid , so we have to deal with storage. We store 24 hours, and run about 20x on panel capacity so that even overcast days are sufficient… but we have massive surplus power on sunny days.

Analog computation probably. Theoretically, technology like thermal wells and others that harness physics to find the local minimum energy state allow inference with multiple orders of magnitude improvements in size, energy, and speed. Rough back of the napkin gives SD-card size 1t parameter models on about 2.5 watts using thermal wells (cryogenic cooling required, afaik), achieving density approximately similar to NAND flash per parameter.

This is bizarre to me. I close Out my browser completely several times a day lol.

Weather.

If you want 1KW reliably off grid (24/7 with 24kwh battery) (let’s assume 5 hrs solar insulation) you’ll need around 20kw of panels. Even then, you’ll have occasional shortages in inclement weather.

If you are on the grid (theoretically unlimited battery, just averaging over the year) you’ll need 4.8 kw of panels.

Batteries are the hard part of solar.

But that would be obviously intentional. Much more plausible deniability with 0x4.

I am having a hard time understanding what you mean by laminar flow. Do you mean, specifically laminar flow over an airfoil, vs turbulent flow? I don’t see how this makes a distinction relevant to ballistics?

Not so good on slick roads. Besides, I don’t know of any passenger car or light truck that has insufficient braking performance to the point of the tire grip not being the weak point.

Also in this article: world bank doesn’t understand AI.

AI small enough to run locally on a 30 dollar smartphone is far enough from useful to be effectively null.

Yeah, my workspace would have had pretty heavy air defenses. Electric bug rackets come to mind, as does mosquito netting from the cieling lol.

The furious pace of Ux “optimisation” that we see across the board (and especially at AI companies) is a hidden anti pattern. The time and frustration of learning a new ux is an acceptable burden when it frames real new capabilities or workflows. It’s not good to rework your ux user experience every week just because you can.

Not only that, but AI is categorically terrible at ux review. I don’t mean aesthetics, I mean attention flow, workflow in general and what the user anticipates as a logical path to feature discovery and exploration. Increasingly, features are hidden behind workflows that meet a single use case but fail to be universally logical or in many cases, even accessible at all outside of the test case.

So, people… use AI in code review. It’s actually pretty great at it if you do it right, and you can ship better software with fewer bugs than ever before. But please, don’t pressure your ux guy to “10x” with AI. In fact, now that you are “10x”ing your development cycle, you are probably going to need to hire -more- ux developers if you don’t want your product to feel like slop even if it’s gold under the hood.

Where were you working that people fly drones around your head? Holy crap thats rude and a little dangerous. Propellers and eyeballs are a bad match.

Intelligence!=instant wins

Just putting 100 of the smartest people in the planet in the same room doesn’t mean profit. It’s the underwear gnome problem. AI is no different in that regard.

I used to wonder about the possibility of using thrusters to decelerate for impending crashes. I think for a substantial fraction of accidents that would be enough to massively reduce the risk.. but hopping over is an option I hadn’t considered practical.

Ballistic means it follows a ballistic trajectory, as in it is governed by gravity and inertia. Flight is typically governed by aerodynamic forces and ballistic trajectories are normally considered undesirable by pilots and passengers alike.
