To preface, AI is a complex matter that I don’t know well enough to claim a net positive or negative.

But I do not think anyone using technology can say they have not seen “any benefit”. While it may be a small benefit for many, it is a useful tool that has contributed to a significant amount of code and information retrieval.

You could say “the downsides vastly outweigh the upsides” or “the societal impact causes suffering”. But to say there is 0 benefit seems like a lie.

If you have ever used an LLM chat bot to gather information and it was correct. If you have ever used a program that was written in part or full by an LLM. If you have read an article that used an LLM to find sources. If you have had an interesting discussion about the ethics of LLMs. All of these are a benefit, no matter how small.

I was thinking the same thing reading that.

If this argument is extrapolated, why should streaming services get the rights to copyrighted works? It sounds like a lot of work.

Hell, why would Pirate Bay be any different than Anthropic in this case? Millions of pieces of copyrighted work, being used as intake rather than sold.

I would argue that the post processing is just as important as when the shutter was pressed. Film is nothing until developed, digital is much the same.

Taking the photo captures what is visible, editing captures what was seen.

A lot of their devices do that, but I doubt there is space in the iPad mini bump to fit anything.

The big examples are iPhone Air and iMac.

From my experience, the iPhone bumps are a lot more noticeable than their iPad siblings.

They have multiple that can do this.

It sounds like you are talking about the style in the MX Master, which is electromagnetic and controlled via software.

They also have a physical version in the M720. I do not know how the mechanism works, but it is controlled by a mechanical switch on the mouse.

I’m betting the full number was generated, but someone biffed the code and only grabbed the first byte.

A bit steep price wise, but seems like it could be a fun tool. Love to see the RP2350 built in.

Have used the flipper zero to fill niche needs, but I can’t really see a situation where the flipper one could not be swapped for something cheaper. Is the cost just for the form factor?

Nonetheless, excited to see what the community does with it.

That was a lot of fun to play with.

I think the fractal solver is bugged, but maybe I am just using it wrong. It says placing a cone in the red zone will block the vehicle, but either the colors are inverted or the backend is off, because everything is red except a few spots.

Otherwise very fun. I managed to park a truck the solver called impossible :)

Note: Using safari on an iPad of that matters.

If I am reading this right, you can generate 268 435 456 ^ 62 alphabets.

I would say he could have even gotten away with “functionally infinite number of alphabets”.

I’m with you in spirit, but please don't bring up gimp in this context.

It’s like mentioning your nephew is pretty good at the piano, when people are discussing if John Williams was copying Holst.

Depends on how you define it. I used “needs replacing” to mean “the average user will feel the battery is not meeting their needs”, which I believe 80% is generally accurate. This can be demonstrated by apple care allowing for battery replacement after the device is below 80% battery health.

If you are using “needs replacing” to mean “the device will be non-functional or risk permanent damage”, you can go significantly lower than 80%. In fact, I think most devices could go down to 0% battery health unless the battery swells.

For what it’s worth, Proton has all but solved gaming on Linux. The only things I have been unable to run are games with low level anticheat.

It is so consistent I don’t even question if a new game will work.

Nvidia drivers on the other hand could still use some work. All wired for me, so I can’t speak to your driver troubles.

I have a windows vm for photoshop and the few programs I can not run native.

I personally run Mint and find it very reliable and capable. It has a windows style interface and my only issues are some minor things with taskbar settings and window snapping. For comparison, I could write a few novels on my issues with windows.

Looks like I am going off old info. Up until the iPhone 14 it was 500 cycles to 80%, 15 and up is 1000.

I also believe apple’s claim is assuming optimal conditions. Real life is going to do a fair bit worse. So likely 700-1000 cycles for 80% if the pattern holds up.

I hear you, but the convenience of 30W charging is very hard to give up. The only downside is it damages the battery, which makes it harder to give up, which damages the battery more.
