I laughed, then remembered PalmOS had a target of no more than 3 clicks.

Shmer? It has so much padding and margin, even in "compact" mode. But it does have a lot of advertising all over, trying to get me to pay for stuff I don't intend to use. Maybe it's ad-dense?

I'm surprised and excited each time I manage to block a UI element successfully. Discord is usually quite preventing that for things that are meant to be noisy, like ads.

Hmm, I wonder if there's a subscription option for "Shaddup! I don't want to buy anything or do your quests!"?

Yes, why did somebody somewhere decide underscores should be italic? They're most clearly underline, as in the days of dial-up BBSes. (-:

> Of course, what was really happening is that they were not getting worse, but naturally every year there was some small percentage of vocal dissatisfied users, while the silent majority simply enjoyed their shoes and didn't have much to say about them.

This also happens in product support. When I was a helpdesk tech at a company, I saw thought "Our stuff is such _crap_! Why does anybody even buy it?". I felt like the sorts of errors we were seeing just shouldn't happen in any deployed product. But gradually, I got a trickle of customer comments like "It saves us so much time. What took multiple people hours..." and "Oh! Sorry, I was trying to reach accounting to renew. We love your software.".

Out of respect for Fruity Loops, and contempt of WK Kellogg Co.'s lawyers, I refuse to acknowledge the forced named change. WK Kellogg can accept the reality that there is no conflict of trademarks or other business interests between music software and sugar-pushers, or they can shove off. (>_<)

Somehow, this has me thinking of the Hubris operating system. If a subprogram calls an API incorrectly (wrong number of arguments, wrong argument type, out-of-bounds memory access…), the system kills the caller with no chance for recovery.

If the AI is not supposed to access a thing, and it tries to in a way you know how to detect, halt it and eject it from memory?

That is wicked fast, mate. I've recommended it to some people who don't use Kagi.

Assistant depends heavily on which of the many models you use. I've most recently liked results from Kimi K2.7 Code.

Kagi lets you re-rank sites, and also lets you ban results from sites you don't like.

onelook.com works for this usecase. Allows pattern searches, and can set it as a custom search engine.

> OneLook scans 16,965,772 entries in 805 dictionaries. Use it to find definitions, related words, quotes, names, lyrics, colors, and more.

The first I remember seeing:

2026-06-02 https://kagi.com/changelog#10959

2026-06-25 https://blog.kagi.com/translate-update

The above two only disabled free access, due to costs. They mention that Kagi Translate would become a subscription service (so I pessmistic'ly assumed it would no longer be part of my existing subscription).

The 2026-29-10 announcement includes "As we roll out our unified Fair Use system, usage across Kagi Translate and Kagi Assistant will count toward a shared allowance.".

> There was Amazon app store which failed to gain traction

I also heard that dev's couldn't remove apps they, for whatever reason, no longer supported. Even if the developers abandoned Amazon's app store entirely, the old bitrotted apps would still be there. The 1-star reviews would pile up, biasing users against them on other platforms.

Kimi K2.7 Code, for me. It's the first model I've used that usually writes working code, somewhat rarely breaks stuff when adding or changing features, and usually fixes a bug correctly just by providing a traceback or description.

Kagi Assistant defaults to the last-used model unless you got there from a Quick Answer. Several times I forgot to change models, and interrupted K2.7 Code, but after a failing to notice the model a few times and getting usable results, I now usually just leave it alone. Unless I want a quicker answer and doubt a "Code" model will grok me.

I'd forgotten that. I miss Fog Creek Software.

Used Trello a lot before it got sold to, and damaged by contact with, Atlassian. FogBugz looked cool…but I had to use an old version of Bugzilla.

I didn't know Glitch existed until this site had a notice that it Glitch would be shutting down. Surprised me FCS had anything to do with a game, and seems it wasn't a good fit. I like the style though, and downloaded some of the art and variations on the Groddle theme before it died.

I don't believe the metric bit. Metric is so much easier to deal with than random-relations-between-unit-sizes.
