> I truly believe we're here because of Facebook.

"Fox news has done to our parents what they thought gangsta rap would do to us". This applies to Facebook as well. I wish they would have stayed in their "I don't know how to use the computer" phase.

> The same exact thing was endlessly claimed about Uber. They were guaranteed to die. They were selling rides for less than they cost.

Lots of companies have used this strategy. And many of them have indeed died. Uber filled a void left by bad public transportation and a lackluster cab system. The higher prices (so they can turn a profit) are still worth it to some.

> OpenAI can knock out a lot of competition by building the largest ad network, then undercutting the cost that consumers see. The margins in ads make that possible. Google already knows how that works, they're doing the same thing right now.

And you think OpenAI can compete here? If LLM's end up being yet another ad funded platform, I have a hard time believing Anthropic or OpenAI will outperform Google here. Maybe if one of them strike a deal with Apple, or get bought by them. Otherwise, ads are Google's bread & butter. And, they own Android.

> You don't need to be a good writer to recognize good writing, the same goes for code.

I don't see how these are comparable. Let me re-word that statement with analogous disciplines: You could argue one doesn't need to be a chef to recognize good food, the same goes for building blueprints.

I've seen a big uptick in "prove you're a human" screens recently. Our ISP had issues the other day, and I suspect I was assigned a new IP (I've had previous ones for years). I've been attributing it to that. But, now I'm wondering if it's something else.

Former graphic designer turned software developer with 10+ years of professional experience. Most recently, I've been building highly dynamic frontends with React. Prior to that, I was re-writing legacy desktop applications as web based with Vue + Go + Postgres. I'm comfortable working across the stack, and adapting to new (or old!) technologies.

Currently working on a VST plugin in C++, and I have explored a number of other areas over the years. Such as: mobile, games, graphics programming, and embedded systems.

While most of my work has been web focused, I'm open to working in other areas. Check out my website, sectionfourteen.com, for more detailed info.

I've stayed at the same Sonder hotel (in NYC) multiple times, and there was absolutely a front desk person.

When I finally started using the internet to figure out what I'm supposed to do next on some of the quests, I couldn't believe how many of the answers were "Talk to the NPC three times in a row to exhaust their dialogue".

Like, are you shitting me? Why? After a while, I would do this to every NPC, every time. But, yeah, it's a bad design.

I thought the loudness war was over? This was a hot topic for many years in the music production community. Sad to see it still persists. Especially since the answer to any loudness problem is to simply for the user to turn up the volume.

Plenty of this happening on the other end too. I've received the same exact spam e-mail about an open position from 3 different e-mail addresses / names. It's nuts.

On an unrelated note, your localias project is really cool! Going to give it a spin tonight.
