Do you think The Market™ _won't_ mobilize in response to the price incentive?

> I don't want the same thing, so I guess something has to mediate the resource allocation and effort of society towards providing that want/need at a certain quality/price.. and guess how we do that?

This. Freedom of choice is the simplest way to describe the advantage of capitalism (free markets) over socialism. Obviously, markets don't solve everything, but the US certainly is not some anarcho-capitalist's libertarian fantasy.

I guess the lived memory of socialism's failures has passed and experience is the best teacher.

I was young and poor once upon a time, drove a 20yr old Subaru that overheated constantly because the radiator fins had completely rusted out (when I drove through a large puddle, the rusted out front passenger footwell floorboard folded up as a gout of streetwater burst into the car), had CV joints made from recycled cardboard, had to push start the thing on flat ground, etc. I didn't buy my first home until I was in my late 30s. I saved money like miser.

fc417fc802, you too will be older someday (if bots get older, I don't really know), and you will shake your head at the youths too.

I am tempted to just paste (the material parts of) what you wrote into Claude and see what it spits out...

I hope not, I use "full self driving" every day! I'm sure your statement is based extensive experience, but mine is that for 2 1/2 years over 40k miles, it has worked very well. Not perfect (parking spot selection has frequent regressions), but astonishingly well.

I wish it switch to (or at least behave like) "Sloth" in any <30mph zone. Sometimes I forget to switch as I'm driven through a neighborhood and it's not friendly to anyone walking their dog.

> 1. These are the same jobs that millions of Americans who are not dependents of others also have, because not everyone has the ability to work other jobs. The vast majority of minimum wage workers are adults.

[per Claude] # of full time adult workers working for minimum wage: 29,000 (of 60.4m). 338,000 work at below minimum wage, but they are tipped.

> 3. With a $7.25 federal minimum young people are still falling out of the workforce. The reason this is happening is not too high of wages, if anything it is the opposite

My own theory is that the baseline affluence of modern US life is so high, there's no impulse to earn money. Who needs a car or gas money if you're doing fine at home? They're starting out at Maslow level 6.

I look forward to the safe diversity provided by early stage socialism!

> Of course, it's completely reasonable to argue that federal minimum wage itself is disgustingly low.

Is it disgustingly low for a bagboy at a grocery store working a few hours after school a few days a week? [lists a bunch menial entry level jobs for teenagers]

I don't know what the right number is, but it may be that pricing the youths out of early employment with "living wage" minimums is what is turning them in precious flowers. Not to mention, even in a evil Red state the market rate starting wage is above the floor.

I only use their DataGrip product. Compared to the competition they are iterating at lightspeed.

> why in the hell do I need to trust some extension builder to give me an amazing UI/UX?

Because you're a "long tail case" tab user? Your case might be the poster boy for an active extension ecosystem that caters to niche needs.

> lack of social intelligence mixed with little self-confidence, both of which you can gain by being out-reaching and taking risks.

I live this. Even today, I have to make myself be social, I have to practice (my first job as a waiter was the best thing to happen to me).

The human engagement muscle atrophies when you indulge "introversion" (for all definitions and causes), and our age of infinite individual delights has tipped the tradeoff towards "alone and easy". I wish the sensitivity toward and acceptance of "neurodivergent" had more recognition that the way humans have been doing things for the last 15000 years might have had some value.

ugh, capitalists...

...would that this (micro) evidence actually show that, and had any hope of practical scale without unintendeded consequences...
