"Every extension of mankind, especially technological extensions, has the effect of amputating or modifying some other extension[…] The extension of a technology like the automobile “amputates” the need for a highly developed walking culture, which in turn causes cities and countries to develop in different ways. The telephone extends the voice, but also amputates the art of penmanship gained through regular correspondence. ways.” — Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man

Love this quote, and many others by MM. Utterly blows my mind how we seem to be failing to apply and extend his teachings to help understand this modernity beta test we're participating in.

Thanks so much for releasing this useful and time saving software, you da man! Can't wait to see where this goes and I'd like to be part of the community.

Absolutely agree. Jimmy jet set is getting his vibrolux pen set delivered biweekly in record time, meanwhile some of the world waits exorbodently for deliveries of life saving medicine and food, or are otherwise greatly dissserviced by supply and delivery operations.

>Physical drugs >majority of society doesn't use

Maybe you meant illicit drugs. Almost everyone I know of consumes some type of drug.

Your idea seems similar to China's recent policy, restricting access to online games for younger people.

Strange because I've always seen the saurdukhar/fremen as a literary interpretation of a real aspect of human nature - the ability (of some) to perserverve and excel in stressful/difficult situations.

Some real life examples I've pointed too are the ghurkas in WW2 or Russian hackers.

Isn't most jailbreaking and protections tampering done by people w/o high school, let alone cs degrees.

This inefficiency and it's resulting poor working conditions aren't unique to countries with health insurance and private healthcare tho, see Canada.

That'd actually be sweet. I'm a joke person and I'd love a platform to learn new jokes.

>“Everything that isn’t illegal is allowed” sounds great until you see what that actually means on the internet.

>obnoxious / disturbing / spam-filled / miserable race to the bottom of the lizard brain stuff

None of the preceding scoundrels' favorites should be illegal tho.

The arbiter of the global soapbox should to be in favor of almost absolute free speech imo.

Increasingly, many of these rural primary industries will need on site tech workers as well.

Rural Canada is where I'm located at the moment. I tend to agree with GP that cities are an inevitable migration towards efficiency and that rural life is increasingly an unsustainable welfare state.
