Thanks to a helpful comment, I discovered after 10 years that

> i can't believe i'm writing a reply to a guy whose name is broken spanish for 'brando, the little fuck'. (literally. there isn't an alternative interpretation.)

Cool, I had no idea.

I love the summary done by https://hn-wrapped.kadoa.com/BrandoElFollito?share

Profile Summary A French ex-physicist turned tech enthusiast who brings a unique European perspective to discussions. Maintains a substantial self-hosted infrastructure while regularly contributing insights on topics ranging from quantum mechanics to cooking. Known for pragmatic approaches to technology and occasional cultural observations about France.

Roast Claims to be French but hasn't mentioned surrendering once - suspicious! Has a PhD in physics but still can't figure out why YAML indentation is important Watches hoof trimming videos despite seeing a real cow only twice - peak urban programmer moment

(the mention about France was mean, though)

Aaaaaand, a wrap of the wrap! https://hn-wrapped.kadoa.com/BrandoElFollito?share

Thank you for being condescending, this helps the conversation.

Could you please point out in the comment I was responding to where you found this quote?

And maybe refer to

>Why not ask his son, who has joined him on sections of his walk, or at least read the abundant press coverage about the two and why Bushby was unable to follow his infant son to Northern Ireland?

which true to explain how great the relationship was once the kid grew up?

> Contribute a new question that was well stated and broadly applicable and get a response. You had to earn your answers

After hundreds of thousands of rep points (it's a long time I haven't been there,) - this is simply not true anymore.

It was the case at the very beginning, and then there was a flood of useless questions, and the psychotic users decided to downvote everyone. Some groups (such as Golang) became a real sect. Meta was for unhinged psychopaths.

I loved SO and spent a long time there. At some point it became a 4chan. Shame.

Plenty of the nework sites zre still great though.

No matter what, a kid needs his parents as a kid (in normal healthy families). There is not a case that I can imagine where not having them is good.

The fact that he gtew up to be a man much, much more mature than his father just shows he is the better person. And absolutely nothing on the father.

I had a .name domain since its birth. Then proceeded to loose it because of bad luck and bad planning.

I tried to retrieve it but after a week of back and forth exchanges (mostly back from my side) I gave up.

Moved to .fr hoping that it will be stable (price wise) as a national TLD - so far so good.

Probably, but corporations and assimilated organizations will not take the risk.

Yes I was - for me and my family (and a few friends)

What are the positive things he wanted to accomplish?

Note that I am French so this question is because over here he has always been seen as a conman

I moved to the cloud for a simple reason: if I die tomorrow people who depend in the service are screwed. And this is an important service, like email or digital archives.

I had no idea that example.com is even registered. I thought that it was the official placeholder for, well, examples.

It would not occur to me that my examples may lead somewhere at all. I was actually glad they do not, to spontaneously break incorrect configurations.

I was happily active on the SE network, in several sites, for 15 or so years. Without any special efforts I accumulated some 500k internet points. Cool.

And then something changed. Ego trips. Questions immediately downvoted. An extremely, psychotic Meta site.

I get it that plenty of questions are low quality. But for fuck's sake - why not just having a second look at high rep questions, which are more likely to be well rounded ? This is how you lose your more enthusiastic members.

Within SO some groups were great and others (Go, I am looking at you) were elitist cliques.

And then there are the niche sites: cooking, LaTeX, ... Welcoming, happy questions and relevant answers. These are the ones I will miss a lot.

A tribute to an excecrable individual.

This is the whole "should the man be separated from the artist"? I think not but the other perspective holds water as well.

Because we have the greatest lighthouses. A lot of people, great people told us we have them. It is true.

I despise wifi in planes on long hauls. With the improvement of the reliability, there are now people yelling their super important corporate call across the whole cabin.

On a recent flight I had to tell a guy in a seat nearby to stop yelling. He was obnoxious so I asked his neighbor to switch seats for a moment so that I can participate in that call as well. He stopped.

I always wish wifi was down.

I had a company card in the name of the company. The company was reimbursing it. I was supposed to file expense claims and they should match the reimbursement.

I had very high spendings so it would have been easy to smuggle something. I never did that because it is simply stealing.

I now have a company card at my name. The company bears the cost and it has an extended reimbursement time. I have to reimburse it so it is in my interest to file expense claims quickly. But I could use it for anything.
