Yeah, and some people just want the multi-billion dollar company that is currently destroying the planet while also permanently crippling social connections to just stop.

The comment you mean was posted the minute, your comment was posted.

Coincidence? I think not.

Meh, the audience comes with the content.

If only every third NSFW-artist from tumble migrated into the fediverse, the audience would follow and maybe even lead some of the other artists to join as well.

Good thing, it's only webcomics! Would be a shame if everyone f*cking self-censored online and wrote stupid sh|t like "unalive" or "seggs".

Even a /128 would be, since most of them don't even have enough IPv4 addresses anymore and use CGNAT extensively.

You are wrong with your own examples.

Github is THE main platform for git. If github doesn't upgrade (and their code has been shit and hard to fix/update before) then the shift will not happen. Because yes, you can upgrade your repo independently, but if there is nowhere to push, no one will do it.

IPv6 is (also because of github) a great example for this. You can easily have an IPv6 address next to your IPv4 address, but a lot of websites (e.g. github) don't have that. Why would a normal company use IPv6 if even the bastion of nerds doesn't use it?

And to Python 2's "eventual migration" I can unhappily tell you, that my company (recently) bought an actively developed tool, that still uses Python 2.

Reading the comments here is worse.

But 3 billion pictures per week is equivalent to 12.4 million miles or 639.6 million miles extra per year.* It's not about you. There are no 3 billion people each creating one picture per week. Its probably more like 10.000 assholes creating 2.5 billion pictures per week to satisfy some stupid online feed and the other users creating a picture per month on average.

* if we trust the numbers in the other comment

Okay, but firstly golf is probably the most useless sport ever and secondly there is more than one AI datacenter.

Yes, some people have fun, but most of the "fun" nowadays is just endless mindless consumption.

You call it a demand-driven market like they don't lobby for the usage of coal or gas power plants and sabotage electric mobility and public transit.

But you can rent on-prem servers in some datacenter near you where all that is done for you.

I was completely caught off-guard, because initially I read the headline as "ASMR of firing 1,700 people, mostly managers" which I would listen to

I like, how this C-brain read the headlines, that other hardcore C-fans bullied multiple people out of the linux kernel and made this a point AGAINST rust.

Also measuring a proof of concept by LOC of all metrics just tells you to completely ignore this blogpost as utter bs. No sane person should use LOC as a metric for anything. Linus Torvalds recently said that himself.
