Rollercoaster Tycoon was also developed by one person. Developers could also be absurdly efficient in the past, see valve and half-life 1 as an example.
It means little to give examples of cases where developers punched above their weight and arguing it was because of reason X they could achieve it in the first place.
How many people failed, was it because of missing tools?
Like before, people will attribute some of their performance to tools, that in reality didn't matter at all.
A friend of mine is on their way to becoming a teacher and already teaching at a school for one year part-time.
He tells tales about his children mostly from low income families, where school is the only structure they have as their families are completely dysfunctional. Thorn apart by the family trying or not trying to integrating into German society as well as themselves.
When he gives structure to them they behave much better, while interesting enough behaving at home worse. At least he told from stories about the parent-teacher meetings he had.
How would you restructure the approach to open source? Honest question.
Disregarding any design standards and letting the AI role with it. People that mention it, in the comments, get blasted by accusations of gate-keeping.
I see this so often. Nobody is gate-keeping anyone, you can just learn the skill, read about UI design and art.
Why is it so hard for people to just put in the time?
It uses a Chinese sage to illustrate the fight against using machines:
"I have heard my teacher say that whoever uses machines does all his work like a machine. He who does his work like a machine grows a heart like a machine, and he who carries the heart of a machine in his breast loses his simplicity. He who has lost his simplicity becomes unsure in the strivings of his soul. Uncertainty in the strivings of the soul is something which does not agree with honest sense. It is not that I do not know of such things; I am ashamed to use them."
It resonates with me similarly as the post.
What do you do when you need to manually maintain server structure in space? Just the idea of a set of rogue autonomous data centers in space seems like an intriguing story idea.
I like programming, it fun! Using AI feels like I am optimizing the fun out of it. I learn so much about different programming languages and topics I would simply not learn when using AI. I also like learning things!
You don't want to know how often I heard: "But I saw on Instagram, with AI it can be done cheaper and faster".
The people that would pay me don't care for good docs, eyesore, or if the programmer actually knows how the app works. They care for how fast are you done? And how much does it cost?
Now LOC comes down to how much tokens you are willing to spend for a given day.
While I code without the help of AI, sometimes I feel like I am being left behind.
Ohh you wrote only 400 lines today? I shipped a whole app while being in the gym... hits hard.
For example I believe there is a deeper quality that cannot be easily found in a more quality product. Quality can be expressed in many ways and felt throughout the life. But people don't care for that.
They mostly care for cheap and good enough. I don't want to attack that way of life its simply one with tradeoffs like a life with more quality.
More quality can mean more expensive, the need to engage with something a bit more, etc.
Leibl famously needed over 3 months to just draw the hands of one model for "Three Women in Church" it certainly has some quality to it.
In the modern world seldom you will find one that wants to pay for such work or even spending 3 months of work on painting hands.
