Open hardware would be awesome if more people took it seriously, it's so unnatainable today financially for most.

BIOS, boot and CPUs are already quite insecure for the operator today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpXkJqTAY5Y https://libreboot.org/faq.html https://github.com/unnideeraj/article_backdoor https://hackaday.com/2024/08/18/reverse-engineering-the-amd-...

These are decades old, known vulnerabilities. So you can extrapolate the more clever, hidden exploits.

It first takes getting our colleauges/people to care about not buying backdoored products - knowledge of these is pretty low and people don't flock to alternatives :/

Feels nice to see a program with high efficacy - another cool part about this vs other 503cs or nonprofits is how efficient it is at outcomes: books in hands

Downvote away, but: Academics have a duty to explain their years of inaction while their students have wilted and faltered as a direct result of academics not understanding how to to be effective in the real world in which their students are expected to be productive members. Those that cant, teach, and teach ridiculous fallacies they personally subscribe to. These people are too weak to stand up to their own bosses and boards. Are those the meek and weak we want teaching? Instead of real critical thinking they instilled a twisted sick worldview about social issues that have no connection to creating market value and being a good, supportive human that lifts all boats. They focus on things no businessperson would even consider engaging while missing the forest for the trees. Wikipedia is the last concern of this rapidly imploding rightthink crumbling empire, on its last legs from those whose families bore the ultimate cost to get their kid a degree that is increasingly worthless.

I propose our leadership cut funding and fine any program in the US where a professor is not actively working in their field at a minimum part-time. These people are so out of touch it is literally sickening when you think of all the negative downstream effects. Citizens should demand better of their tax dollars - academia in its form today is a cancer that is holding back your youth from greatness and robbing our nation of the qualities that made it great, kneecapping our young talent for independent thought before they even figure out who they are.

Unpopular opinion: In a similar vein I often wonder if the somewhat imperfect/wasteful overhead of paying for the MIC should be budgeted in a way that rewards nonuse of materials as well as preparedness, to decouple the useage of these munitions from the spikes in sales. Maybe im weird but given the motivations of all parties, I personally don't mind paying a dentist or doctor/surgeon an inflated rate if it means inaction on something not worth fixing is not persued....this is less harmful than uneccsary action. To me war preparedness is the same ideal and something where inaction could also be rewarded to remove uneccesary action. If we're OK with the grift, are we OK with paying for it and the destructive elements going unused?

Seems like in this particular overreach the victim has experienced adverse economic effects that they could recover. A job offer they had was rescinded and it has come to light this was a ploy. Not an expert, but seems like this may be costly.

Mostly adaptability, fearless independence, and being a curious person. The rest falls into place if you come from a place of abundance vs projecting a parent's insecurity and fears on your prodigy.

Grave concerns, especially after some of the research on canbus and vehicle network vulnerabilities.
