If anything, he is the guy to be blamed that global climate change theory was taken seriously and not the hockey guy that was making up data.

Just give the condolences for the guy and maybe also fuck off from the Maori lands, that you are occupying - you seriously can't be so radical and not be self-aware of that fact...

No, I do not claim I am expert at understanding at how LLMs operate, but there is a huge difference - we can measure changes in models and even identify what part of model is used - it is clearly a niche thing to do and not particularly interesting to many people(and not to me as well, unless those LLMs will be able to replicate brains - in future, then I would be biting my nails that I have ignored the basics), but there is no such issue on dissecting and identifying how bits are shuffled around, unlike with QM.

For QM the main issue is that we are barely able to see results of that black box and have to make guesses even about observable results, because what we see is result of particle long gone and the result has been a mess of paths that it took. And basically we are operating at identifying single particle, while clearly the path that particle took was defined by other particles and "gravity"? from interacting with other particles bumping it around. I'm even less knowledgeable when it comes to QM terminology, but I get impression that most of the commenters here simply are parroting things they have read or being taught without actually trying to understand and taking into account all the unresolved problems in QM, which is why so many of them sounds so confident is my guess. Because knowing limitations of my brain I would be not so confident of anything, only because of massive load of unresolved issues that QM has.

Listen, people were able to make calendars by observing skies and assuming that Sun was orbiting Earth. It is not exactly the same, but very much how people understand QM - they do not need to known mechanics, but observing end results is enough to "understand" how it functions.

Also billions of people understand how to operate mobile phones, but "understanding how they operate" would be rather stretch and even the biggest specialists of QM have understanding only on how to interpret end results in QM - at best and that is basically it.

Quite frankly, I'm confused about these bold statements. I assume there seems to be some knowledge background of what you are saying - it very much reminds me what stupid strawman arguments I had in high school with my schoolmates then as a part of learning process, but rather far from actual wisdom.

You can imagine waterfall of sand - the fluidity here comes from all those small sand particles moving simultaneously.

>>>Physics steeped enough in quantum theory do understand QM enough to have meaningful discussions free (at times) of rigorous math.

That sounds a lot like gate keeping and has no actual backing - to understand QM you still need to understand Physics, as mechanics of both of them are explaining each other - the scale is the only difference.

>>>There are only a few things that I think are exactly correct in physics, and quantum mechanics is one of them, alongside Relativity.

...unless I have understood it otherwise, but quantum mechanics is still an approximation of things we simply are unable to measure individually - mostly because of speed and have to resort to guessing that approximation of that limited time period, which is still too long. It would be the same as trying to guess position of a ship during voyage across the ocean and taking the smallest measurable time period as 100 years, in which the ship has been already sunk out of existence, while smaller time period would have given us better picture and quantum mechanics that we are able to use has exactly that issue - we are unable to measure and record particles at smaller time intervals. At best we can see trajectories of particles long gone.

Also, this book is not agreeing with your statement, to me which sounds like Religion(because you have no explanation at all!) and should not be part of Science.

>>>Quantum physics is a theory, as in "as far as we can tell, this is an exact mathematical description of the world".

... which "we think" is functioning that way not to mention that theory itself might be wrong and be replaced as most of the supporters of quantum theory doesn't seem to look on it as something that explain mechanics of it, but rather how magic of "unexplainable" quantum mechanics works.

No. Nothing to do with current criminal oligarchs, that are consolidating businesses by robbing owners of companies by overtaking their business with force and access to state and Putin. Like it was with conflict with division of Wildberies, when owner had to cooperate with Chechen mafia so her ex-husband would not have robbed her of her business.

Hodorkovsky became oligarch, because he represented Western investors in very profitable oil industry, that is basically what Russia was able to offer to the world, as most of factories from Soviet times were not usable in market economy - nobody wanted what they produced. That is the reason why many people were having hardships in 1990ies, because they had no job and no money to exist. Only in times of Putin Russia had influx of foreign money from oil and gas, which was redistributed to other people as well. But everything is fleeting in Russia.

>>>Arguably there should be many "races" in Africa given the genetic diversity.

The fact is - you are being racist here, because you seem them as looking the same...

>>>We're also all mixed-species.

No, Not by modern definition of what species are. Even those swamp frogs, that are mixing with pond frogs(or maybe vice versa - look just read about species yourself - I am not explaining to you what species are!) are different species, that just steal DNA, so no inter-species mixing.

Listen, I am definitely more bored than anyone else, but sadly theory about Atlantis civilization and their descendants mixing with people, or even Biblical races of giants, or even proposal of common boar-chimpanzee sexual intercourse from which humans evolved is just not true... I'm kinda disappointed and not about that it is illegal to have sex with other species - including animals, but that it is more boring in that we are nothing else than just one species. We are not mixed-species - nothing backs that. There also are issues with inter-species development possibilities, so impossible to get results naturally without some gene editing first. So, no kawaii girls with natural cat ears - they all are fake.

That is a folk concept, because there is a widespread ban on research of what race is. However not many folks know that Communist USSR had continued race studies and their developments and definitions currently are most progressed of classification of races. Since I have been exposed to that knowledge I can compare the racial labels with labels used in autosomal admixture and strangely enough they overlap, so we have a situation now, where research of races is banned, but research of genetics compensate for that...

>>>For instance when the Iranian school was hit, it was also double tapped.

Now you are talking. The school(existence of which is not possible to prove) was for girls - in Iranian Islam version these girls are seen as cattle and not really a human loss, so what Iranian side is voicing is double faced.

It is a collateral damage - unless you have any proof that it was deliberate, you can only make accusations and not a proof of a warcrime. But far from what you are peddling in the case of Ukrainian/Russian attacks - Russians are systematically attacking civil infrastructure(with occasional hits on military objects, which is rather adding to confusion). I would give Ukrainian pass on killing Russians, but sadly they do not kill them - despite the whole Russian mythology of what they expect from Ukrainians to do and what they justify to their attacks on civilians. Actually Russians are expecting for revenge of what they have done preemptively, as that is how their mindset operates, but nothing to do with laws of war and legal actions and responsibilities for them.

>>>Your logic about what is a valid military target

Not my logic. There are very specific categories what are and what are not legitimate targets. My wording here is not an issue - your understanding of what can be legitimate target is. Look, take step back and actually go through the laws - your morality crusade does not make you better than anyone else, you are just insane. IMO, you are a legal target for deadly force with the lies that you are spreading around, but not really my problem.

>>>People are far too myopic and led by emotion instead of their brain.

If that is not your case, then you are a manipulative bot. It is also laughable to have this argument and exclude yourself.

>>>And you obviously have show flagged on, or you wouldn't be able to reach this point in the discussion.

Yes, I am just interested to seek out crazy delusional people and see how dangerous they can be and what poisonous ideas they are throwing around - apparently poisoned by those ideas themselves, which is rather good indicator of insane people among society. It also makes me question myself if I am slipping into insanity and correct myself, because some parts of my mind would very much like to act like you do and some antidote is needed to keep my multifaceted mind in order, as I am mirroring other people - especially crazy ones too easily. Other option would be to avoid socialization completely, and it works, but then I have to question reality...

Regardless, I think that not all is lost for YC crowd and some of them have proper judgement backed by knowledge, which is surprising to me sometimes.

I have moved away from my country - because I see no future there. And it has no ruins(not yet), but it is going towards it and eventually it will become ruined. It is depressing - to me.

Ukraine even with war going on looks more promising, as population has a hope - for better future and that matters a lot.

>>>No one below at least regional level oligarchy. The oligarchy will only consolidate and strengthen.

I do not share your negativity towards business owners, but it seems to be common trend here as well. For better or worst, but they follow the trend of society and and are driving force of any society. There is no alternative to them, but at this point there is a choice between Singapore or China model of people involved in state corporation - just like Europeans 100+ years ago choose Capitalism with Socialist face. Humans are social animals and that is what limits us same time also giving our main strength.

>>>Nationalism was only a poison

I think that modern corruption, have destroyed nationalism. The nation itself is an idea, that holds society together. When you have no unifying idea for a nation, it does not exist. The scourge of modern people is that they have no education in these topics, though they have some instinct level understanding that something is wrong.

>>>Russia will survive

I do not see why Russia would survive. How? With what? Putin has destroyed any social mechanisms, that makes state - Russians will have to build new state and I can't see how with ethnic Russians being chauvinistic racists towards significant part of their population. Russia basically is repeating history of Haiti - it will be torn apart by "tamed" ethnicities and nihilistic Russians themselves and even 1% radicals among them is enough to poison them to act destructively against Russians, that show no signs of regrets or guilt - this is actually insane combination of society of imminent self-destruct and I am very positive, that 100 million cannibals have no chances of survival against even couple of million of determined hunters bent on hunting them out to extinction. Also, my prognosis puts into account things that have not happened yet, but Russians are are heading there for sure. Regardless, even if suddenly a miracle would happen and war would stop - Russia is a failed state that has lowest birth rates and highest mortality rates - everything is in ruins, access to medicine, state, roads, business a lot of criminals - not even counting those that are criminals in state level and army. It is a nightmare case to make out of Russia normal country. Couple of million of people have to be tried and lustrated - to just sift out worst sh!t. It is a mafia state - southern Italy is even super developed compared to what Russia is now.

>>>Ukraine maybe will. Poland is not even at war and follows the same pattern - emigrants replaced by imported population, skyrocketing wealth inequalities.

Frankly I don't think that it is justified to see history as linear evolution. Things change - we currently are experiencing changes, but they won't last in that quality for longer time. It is expected as status quo of power has to change - US, Russia, China - these three countries has to vanish or their power has to diminish and these are the only changes that will lead us into future. What you are seeing now are just a small waves - some of those are echoes from the past, like migration, that is linked with morality and egoism of businesses built on exploiting modern slavery and for the best and worst dislinked society from business and state.

I'm sorry to say this, but whole chaos that you despair is perfect fertile ground for new societies to raise in place - including state functions, which will eventually lead to what is a solution to what you do not see now. We are living in "interesting times", but for future generations that would not look like end of times you are painting.

My comment was not about migration, that started from February 2022, but includes also those that choose not to return because of war. The data for those that went abroad after 2022 is estimated to be 1 million, but this clearly is not casting whole net of people, that have dual citizenship or just being as tourists, which was the main case in initial stage of 2022 invasion. Yes, a majority of Russians have no capability to travel abroad, and ~80% have not traveled abroad, but 1 million young and among them hundreds of thousands ambitious mostly IT related specialists is a major loss to any big country - not to mention moderately large(by demographics) country as Russia.

Also, I would not trust ANY statistics coming from Russia. There is also significant difficulties to count how many people are actually outside of their country, like it was in the case of my home country, where statistics(that were not politically restricted, like it is in Russia) was nowhere near the ACTUAL numbers, which were significantly higher than what was even suggested.

I assume this has nothing to do with dentistry, but mental and stress related where Western practices are failing, like it is mentioned in articles with African experiences for treating trauma after violence, where they choose to diss Western medical practices and returned to traditional practices of communal healing which worked better. Which is kinda my experience as well, as talking about trauma is not healing but causing trauma again, which took me a while to realize that myself, but I am giving specialists plenty of chances before I start digging and forcing myself to become specialist... So, yes, ignoring some specialists can actually improve your health in some cases, but if I was able to down vote you, I would also do that, as your comment is not about the topic but clearly you need some validation for what you have written. Take care.

Nah, you would not do any digging in code if you are not paid to do that and that is not your responsibility - not to mention if you have any access and rights to do so by the company you are employed. And sometimes that is exactly the solution, that digging in the code is not in the contract and they all know too well, that making different contract simply is too expensive. That is why sometimes it is better to just write a new software in place, than deal with something that has licence and contractual restrictions. The main difference here is that your organism is irreplaceable(at this stage) and the electrical flow that built it from DNA is not part of tools of any specialists.

It is the same as everywhere - if your issue is very specific and UNIQUE and not known to available specialist, you are becoming specialist of the issue with all your knowledge and need to navigate and that includes finding specialist that actually can deal with the issue, unless you consider to become also medical specialist, which would give you insight on the mentioned problems in system. Well, there was an idea that computer scientists should have become part of different fields to add their knowledge to boost those fields, so you are welcomed to do that, I guess. I think that idea about cross-linking fields with IT specialists is on a right track, but it requires actual effort as well.

The pain in tooth makes you do these type of things.

I was similarly trying to extract tooth with pliers that was in pain, because the dentist that treated it did not clean it well enough, before filling it, so there was something left that caused inflammation and that was causing a pain. It eventually ceased(after couple of weeks of pain) - suggestion was to use antibiotics for that, or pain relief - I don't remember if I used any of those, but the teeth is still present. That was 20 years ago... I switched dentist though, which is natural, as I was completely pissed at him and was considering do actually physically harm him - maybe even murder him - all of that because of agonizing pain in teeth.
