By eliminating the headphone jack didn't they just create another revenue source? My understanding is that they get paid a per unit licensing fee by anyone who creates/sells an adapter. I was under the impression this was the reason they removed the jack.

I suffer from this. Recently someone told me,

"Don't think of "problems" in the extreme sense. A problem to solve could be as simple as increasing efficiency of something by 1%."

Ha! Yes, it is disgusting. Can you imagine applying for a job and the employer finds out that you are being investigated by the FBI. I would imagine that there would be some questions/concerns about hiring you. You can't just brush it off and say "Oh that, don't worry about that."

I still don't understand how someone who is being investigated by the FBI can run for President of the United States and have this be perceived as a non issue.

I'm on the same boat as you, don't feel bad about it, I feel the same way when I ask for help on StackOverflow. We have to start somewhere right?

Do you work on any side projects you might want to turn into paid products? Can you be the tech guy and the sales guy?

I have a similar problem, I get bored pretty quick.

Thanks, just what I needed to push me to build my side project. I think I need this on a shirt.

Where are you putting the button? How big will the button be?

Honestly I would guess 75%, depending on the questions above. My thinking is, why would they not want me to click it if they put it on the page?

If we go by the required salary alone, I cant live anywhere on this list... worst of all I reside in CA right now.

I'm afraid I will be facing the same problems here pretty soon. Have you tried calling/walking in to any local businesses that don't have websites set up? $1,000 for a simple static website might look like a bargain.

Best wishes, and good luck.

I've ran some ideas past management in the past but working with people who are 20+ years your senior you kind of get overlooked or pushed to the side. Especially in the Newspaper world.

For the past 5 years the focus has been on the bottom line and if you have to lay off people to reflect a better number then so be it.

It's hard to see this place go down this route when you genuinely believe in the product. Having an informed public is very important but at the end of the day you have to keep the lights on.

My local newspaper is the only paper in my city. Our population is roughly around 100K. Unfortunately living in a community where agriculture is the main source of income technology jobs are scarce. The closest city to me with tech jobs is about 1.25 hours away (Santa Barbara). This might be my short term option, until I can relocate somewhere else.

Thanks for the advice.

It's not in me to bad mouth anyone anyway. I will definitely start looking A.S.A.P. I'm lucky because the layoff news isn't going to be disclosed for another couple of weeks so this gives me time to start the job hunt.

Yup, I've held multiple titles here, I'm in California.

I started as a Print Graphic Designer, then moved to I.T. Due to more layoffs I then became I.T./ Web Dev. I weathered the storm once again and had my job mutated into I.T. Assistant/ Web Dev/ Digital Campaign Coordinator.
