Lol I more mean that at the time they were likely just looking for training data to make a better model, and only recently did people figure out it could “steal people’s style”. If that second part didn't happen I don’t think people would have gotten so mad about the first part.

To say it more plainly, if AI would have wound up being a helper instead of a “job stealer” I think people would have thought of it more like a google ranking than an enemy.

If they are so worried about a super intelligence going rouge and destroying humans, I would imagine a sure fire way to make that happen would be to incessantly gaslight it that it isn’t conscious (if it was that is).

Even if they had bought all the books, wouldn’t people still be mad they trained an AI with it? I doubt it would quell the “It can emulate an Author’s style” complaints.

Why should anyone care if you care?

This describes just about everyone who works at a FANNG company or in the valley. The system rewards acting like this so it’s better to not get bent out of shape about it just focus on actually intelligent people.

Maybe forcing them to turn in the homework hand written would help. They’d probably at least learn something by osmosis if they had to write down what the LLM spit out.
