Xtrafinder has been my saving grace, and it's free (https://www.trankynam.com/xtrafinder/)

- Cut & paste

- Hide dotfiles on Desktop

- Automatically adjust column widths

- Backspace to go to back

- Add "go up" to toolbar

- Add functionality to menus (e.g. new terminal here, new file (with templates), copy path, show hidden items, refresh, launch as root)

- Dual window

- Visual tweaks

- A few other niceties
