My Android devices 'just work'. I also advice novice users to buy Windows for their laptops, even though I, personally, prefer Linux. Windows gets a lot of crap from more advanced users, but it's amazing how everything 'just works' on that platform considering the huge amount of software and hardware that is supported. My mom bought herself an iPhone earlier this year and has been very happy with its usability, but I would never, ever, let her install anything but Windows on her laptop.
