It's a good question. I prefer longer term questions about more fundamental beliefs, as that's what coalitions can form around. It also opens the door to solutions which take longer (more likely to work). Specifically, as an American, I advocate for a robust polling regime well before the primaries to encourage more popular candidates and slates to emerge.
