So the problem is in Ruby itself? Not in onigmo, or in oniguruma? If simply updating Ruby fixes the problem... is GitLab vendoring a Ruby runtime or something? Or has Ruby not published this fix yet?

… Or is the GitLab/onigmo bug about failing to escape regex input?
