Could someone explain this to me because it nags at me in these discussions. Nuclear - what happened in the West, and why isn't it discussed both to solve high energy costs and climate change. Take three countries.
Germany. Germany seems extremely dependent on natural gas which has connected it to Russia in ways that clearly cause political problems and geopolitical issues.
United States seems to be able to afford it but also dismantled its nuclear power plants. In New York State they got rid of a plant that fed NYC and provided jobs, Indian Point, and energy costs have gone up from what I understand.
France has nuclear but behaves culturally like everyone else, with high energy costs and curious behaviors like keeping AC away from people culturally and legally.
I'm all for progressive change, but what do you tell non-climate scientists? If I live in a northern climate in a wooded area, I can't get solar on my house. I can have an electric vehicle and try to keep usage low in the house, but honestly the rest feels like events completely beyond my control, making conversations like these pretty abstract. Okay, we're screwed in a few decades. What exactly do you want me to do? Vote for Greens who attack nuclear and AC like in Europe?
