It makes PyTorch work nicely on TPU, which is impressive mostly because of how unstructured PyTorch is with its conventions. From a compiler standpoint JAX is much easier to work with since its all pure functions. This means that JAX also has access to fairly cutting edge compiler tech like Enzyme which is quite relevant for scientific machine learning work.
