This might be the case in some examples, but I've found that for certain personalities/collaboration approaches putting like with like is potentially the worst outcome (and I've heard of researchers studying personalities and teamwork deliberately doing this during studies in part just to watch the fireworks, though this is just apocryphal anecdotes).
