I can understand why, because I am in the same situation, working by working visa here. Immigration to the US is only possible for highly motivated people in the US, but unfortunately it doesn't intersect with the best people, so they migrate to other countries that have good immigration policies for high-skill workers.
So far getting green cards is almost closed for software engineers. Because to get it from H1B/L1 visas, you need to pass a market test, but it isn't possible right now. So, the only available option is EB2-NIW, but it is a lottery. I only hope that companies will start to hire more outside the US
