The C they have been making is full of UB foot guns and is ever more painful to work with. That only really makes sense if you actually want to frustrate devs and alienate them. I actually have nothing against sunsetting the language, it would be a noble goal to minimize changes, so a new language (like Zig does) can integrate a C compiler without having to spend time on updating it.
