Sweden had no problem remaining neutral through all the previous wars involving both sides, including those fought in Europe. This conflict is no different, yet for reasons that remain unclear, Sweden has chosen to make a dramatic departure from its longstanding policy of neutrality. Whether this turns out to have been a gigantic strategic blunder or the result of NATO pressure that Sweden simply couldn’t withstand remains to be seen.
