OK, here's a different tack, then.

It is almost completely impossible, and therefore a waste of time, to attempt to gatekeep what other people wish to spend their time and energy on.

There's no single hand holding the pursestrings of research. There's no single path to implementation of theory IRL.

Talking about what "should" be studied is arrogant at best.
