Progress in science assumes a certain level of signal to noise ratio in papers. Decreasing the signal to noise ratio in published results will eventually overwhelm the ability to successfully disseminate newly obtained knowledge. This is already happening in the open source community with maintainers being pushed to the point of burnout by AI slop. The same thing is now beginning to happen in other fields.
