I fully agree with your point of view. I think that I saw it the clearest when, in a Magic the Gathering subreddit I usually follow one person started a thread on a set of rare cards and immediately was downvoted to oblivion, and later on closed by the mods. Turns out that those cards were indeed legit, and just because everyone else thought they were not nobody got to see them once the booster opened.
