Why do people act surprised that C and C++ are still as viable as ever, and still very widely used?
Do they not know that basically every important piece of software today is still written in those languages?
Has this realization somehow been lost over time with the rise of languages like Java, PHP, JavaScript and Ruby, even though the major implementations of those languages are themselves built using C and/or C++?
