There's a library for that pattern: http://golang.org/pkg/sync/#WaitGroup

Instead of counting and using a done channel,

    import "sync"
    ...
    var wg sync.WaitGroup
    for ... {
        wg.Add(1)
        go dowork()
    }
    wg.Wait()
