If you read the article, it's about how Symbolic Show of Strength (SSS) beliefs are predictors for belief in misinformation. That speaks to something more granular about the psychological mechanisms behind the spread of misinformation. "Repeating known falsehoods is about declaring tribal allegiance" instead speaks to the existence of the phenomenon, more generally.
