https://caseyhandmer.wordpress.com/2022/07/22/were-going-to-... is a proposal to generate solar (and wind?) power and use it to make synthetic 'natural gas' as the long term energy storage for when the wind is calm and the sunlight blocked. That can go into existing gas storage and pipelines, and be used to drive existing gas power stations.
