Frankly, you're confusing hashing algorithms, encryption and "IDs".

Authentication: "Prove you are you" (hash functions)

Secure Storage: "Keep this secret but let me get it back later" (encryption)

Identification: "Track who/what this is" (UUIDs/tokens)
