Ask HN: Functional Programming Hype

Well I have been learning OOP and been having fun with it. The idea of seperating the code and seeing code as parts that interminglee with each other. I came across this other post where they were stating something about functional programming being better it is just that most schools teach most CS students OOP and not functional programming. I think that that the programming paradigm fits the problem but would love to hear your thoughts?
