Ask HN: Why is restaurant software still so outdated?

When I pay at the cashier of a restaurant, I’ll sometimes see the server tapping on a pre-touchpad computer with an ancient UI that reflects the floor plan.

Why do restaurants still use this software? Or maybe, why hasn’t something like clover that you see at cafes taken over?
