Word of advice: Everybody (I know) who developed a contentEditable editor moved at the end away from it or came to the conclusion that a event based editor is the technical better choice. ContentEditable looks only good at the beginning and has many nasty little and bigger flaws.
All problems start with caret placing and multi browser support and ends with undo or collaborative editing (when you go deep into the rabbit whole).
When I think about it: Never develop an editor on your own ;)
